Pregnancy Accommodations Earlier this week, HB 1309, "Pregnancy Accommodation," passed the Senate Committee on Pensions and Labor (6-4). MCCOY supports passing a comprehensive pregnancy accommodations bill to ensure all pregnant workers have protections and supports in place to ensure they have a healthy and safe pregnancy. Unfortunately, we cannot support HB 1309: all it does is state that women have a right to ask for support, not a right to the support itself. We need to follow the lead of 30 other states who have already done so and pass a simple requirement that employers must provide a reasonable accommodation for pregnant workers, unless doing so would impose an undue hardship. We hope to continue fighting for a proper accommodations bill at the State House next year. |
